South American Wines for 2017

The Travelmono.com team never passes up the chance to try a few good wines. For the sake of bringing you the best wine reviews possible. We have indulged ourselves on five wines we believe you all should try at least once this year. If you agree with us, then we are sure you will be back for more.

2011 Alta Vista Malbec Reserva from the Serenade Vineyard, Argentina

Alta Vista Winery (www.altavistawines.com) was created in 1998 by the Count Patrick de Suarez d’Aulan. The d’Aulan family previously owned the world renowned Champagne house Piper-Heidsieck Piper. Now Count Patrick d’Aulan is making waves across the globe, with his series of vineyards in Argentina and Chile.

The 2001 Alta Vista Malbec Reserva Serenade, is from Alta Vistas single vineyard series.

Heavy, elegant, rich tones. Intense Plum and boysenberry aromas. Mocha, blackberry, licorice finish.

A powerful Malbec, with elegant tannins. The team at Travelmono.com, have been enjoying this well balanced wine over the festive period, thanks to Santa.

Available online $46.99

2012 Altamana Malbec from the Costanza Vineyard, Chile

The Costanza vineyard in the Maule region of Chile, is part of the Altamana winery. The second Winery on our list owned by the Count Patrick d’Aulan.

We included this wine because it is so different to all the Argentinean Malbecs. The d’Aulan Winerys are renowned for their diverse Malbec range, but this is uncharacteristically subtle for a Malbec. Here at Travelmono.com we highly recommend you give this wine a try, to broaden your Malbec horizons. The granatic soils of the Altamana vineyard make for an interesting variant of a new world classic.

Floral and almost delicate for a Malbec. Spicier than its Argentine cousins, and light on the palate.

Aged in French medium toasted oak, to give this wine elegant and fine tannins.

Available online $46

2015 Casa Valduga, Leopoldina Chardonnay, Vale dos Vinhedos, Serra Gaúcha, Brazil

This Brazilian 100% Chardonnay from the Serra Gaúcha region, has won numerous awards in 2016.

A wine with strong oaky aromas. Smokey hazelnut, with spices, white chocolate, vanilla, pineapple and peach.

Elegant creamy palate, with a complex and nutty notes. Acidic sherry tones.

2013 Zuccardi, Tito, Altamira, San Carlos, Mendoza, Argentina

TRAVELMONO.COM RECOMMENDS!

This blend of 80% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Ancellotta hails from the Mendoza region of Argentina.

Rose, blackberry and spicy aroma. The intense palate of dark chewy fruitiness is incredible. Soft tannins with a smooth finish

One of the best wines we have tried in a long time. Even our resident white wine snob, is loving this wonderful wine.

2014 Casas del Bosque, Pequeñas Producciones, Casablanca Valley, Chile

Casas del Bosque winery was established in 1993 and is located 30km from Chiles principal port city of valparaiso. They were established as a boutique winery specialising in Sauvignon Blanc grape, for which they are renowned. However this 100% Syrah is a standout for us at Travelmono.com.

A capable and complex wine, with aromas of black and red fruits, and a hint of pepper.

Soft and smooth on the palate. Intense black cherry with vanilla, and smoked bacon.

Available online £20.99
